RESIDENTS are being invited to host their own World’s Biggest Coffee Morning for Macmillan Cancer Support – the annual event which raises millions of pounds to support people living with cancer.
It’s a cause close to the heart of Jen Parry, 46, who hosts aerial dance classes in her home – a former church – in Deighton, near York.
Jen said: “Macmillan has been a huge help to my family. My father and father-in-law both had Macmillan nurses when they were diagnosed with cancer, and have really helped us all through some very difficult times. That’s why it’s important to raise money for Macmillan.”
Jen’s classes include a breast cancer support group, and has also seen her train actress Maria Gray, ahead of performing aerial displays in A Midsummer Night’s Dream at York’s Rose Theatre this summer.
In 2017, there were over 8,500 coffee mornings held in Yorkshire, raising more than £1.9 million for people living with cancer – contributing to a grand total of more than £27 million. Donations to Macmillan help fund roles such as Macmillan nurses, benefits advisers, information specialists and GPs.
Clara White, Macmillan area fundraising manager, said: “Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning takes place on Friday 28th September and we need your help to support the growing number of people living with cancer across the UK. Whoever you invite and whatever you serve, host your Macmillan Coffee Morning, your way.”
