TWENTY-FOUR teams went 'Around the World in 80 Days' as they took part in an 'It's a Knockout' event.

The teams were competing for the honour of becoming the St Leonard's Hospice "It's a Knockout" Champions on York's Knavesmire.

From 10.30am to 5.30pm in three tournaments on Sunday, they donned fancy dress, undertook a series of crazy challenges and got thoroughly wet.

When the water had settled, The Grand Hotel was the overall winner.

Annie Keogh, corporate fundraiser at St Leonard's Hospice, said: “The event has been a fantastic success once again and we’d like to thank all the teams who took part, and congratulate the overall winners The Grand Hotel.

"It really isn’t the winning that’s important as all teams have raised money for the hospice and given the spectators a really good day out. Well done everyone!”

Among the challenges for 'Around the World in 80 Days' the teams had to complete ‘Up, Up and Away’ in which teams raced against the clock to make their own hot air balloon and ‘A Drive Down Route 66’ where teams climb inside a VW Camper.

Teams have until October 5 to collect and hand over their sponsorship money.
