TADCASTER Albion kicked off the new Evo-Stik League East Division season in disappointing fashion as two second-half goals saw Carlton Town leave Yorkshire with maximum points.

After an uninspiring first half, the visitors broke the deadlock on 56 minutes, courtesy of Oliver Robinson, before Aaron Opoku sealed the win late on with a classy free-kick.

Leeds United goalkeeper Harrison Male made his Brewers debut, deputising for Michael Ingham, while Jack Vann was handed a first competitive start in defence, with Josh Barrett missing the three previous Saturdays.

The season was just five minutes old when Male was called into action, a meaty half-volley from full back Robinson being terrifically pushed onto the upright by the young Leeds United stopper.

At the other end, Casey Stewart headed Aaron Hardy's clipped free-kick on target only for the inspired Jack Steggles to spring a hand up in double quick time to tip the ball over.

After a laborious start from Taddy, there were positive signs going into the second half as a breakthrough looked likely.

However, it was Carlton who took the lead 11 minutes in as Male misjudged Riece Bertram's lofted free-kick, leading to Robinson finding the net.

Brewers substitute Josh Barrett's thunderous strike then soared agonisingly wide with Steggles at full stretch.

The latter then denied Stewart again with ten minutes left following Harry Coates nodding down Hardy's free-kick.

Joe Lumsden couldn't round Steggles late on, but with Albion pushing forwards, Carlton substitute Mamoke Akaunu was brilliantly denied by Male.

But three minutes from time it was 2-0 when Opoku beautifully bent a free-kick around the wall and into the net from 25 yards.

Understrength Pickering Town lost 2-1 to AFC Mansfield in their first game in the Evo-Stik League East Division.

Lynton Karkach scored the opener for the Bulls, followed by a second for Nick Guest in the 66th minute.

Ryan Blott managed to pull back a goal via an 85th-minute penalty but it was not enough.

Second-half goals from Dominic Knowles and James Thompson gave Harrogate Town an excellent 2-0 victory at Aldershot in the Vanarama National League, but Harrogate Railway Athletic went down 5-0 at home to Staveley Miners' Welfare in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

Knaresborough Town lost 3-2 at home to early leaders Liversedge, despite goals by Robert Worrall and Dan Thirkell, but Selby Town won 2-0 at home to Campion, courtesy of goals early and late by Liam Flanagan.
