A PILOT policing scheme to tackle antisocial driving will be continued.

North Yorkshire Police's Roads Policing Group, officers from Selby Town Neighbourhood Policing Team and members of the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency teamed up on Sunday, August 12, for the operation, following reports of antisocial behaviour at the Three Lakes Retail Park in Selby.

Six vehicles were stopped and checked by the DVSA, and all six vehicles had defects which resulted in five receiving prohibitions.

A police spokesman said: "A Blue BMW had a de-cat, no handbrake and badly tinted windows. A white Audi A5 was issued a prohibition for tyres and a TOR for number plate, also searched Sec23 due to demeanour.

"A White BMW was issued a prohibition for shock absorbers and bald tyres. A new driver of 9 months who was driving a VW Polo was issued with an immediate prohibition and his vehicle recovered due to three defective tyres. He was also arrested for testing positive for cocaine. Due to the positive result from our day of action, we will be repeating this Operation with the DVSA and Council within the upcoming weeks."
