THE family of a woman who died from cancer are organising a series of fundraising events in her memory.

Linda Beecham, who lived in Thornton-le-Dale, died last October, aged 67, following a short battle with a rare type of cancer.

Her husband Tim and son Jason are now fundraising for the locally-based Yorkshire Cancer Research group.

Tim said: “Linda fell ill last July with a very rare cancer which was inoperable.

“This year Jason decided he wanted to do something to raise funds in memory of his mum and as a true Yorkshire man has been taken part in a series of 10ks across the county, including Hull, Leeds and York.

“This really sparked me into action and as a musician I felt it was appropriate to organise a musical event.”

Tim said the couple, who are originally from Scarborough, retired to Thornton-le Dale 12 years ago when they retired.

“Linda loved living in the village and every Sunday we would walk up to The Green and listen to the music so it seemed appropriate to do a fundraising event there,” he said.

A Concert for Linda, on Sunday, from 2pm, will feature music by groups Rockinhorse, Barleycorn and special guests.

Tim said: “Barleycorn are a folk and pop group, while Rockinhorse perform a variety of music from the 1960s and 1970s.

“We hope people will donate generously to Yorkshire Cancer Research.”

Barry Howard, from the Pickering branch of the charity, said: “Tim tragically lost his wife Linda after a battle with a rare form of cancer.

“Through his music he is determined to raise money for Yorkshire Cancer Research in her memory and in the hope that others can avoid and survive cancer. Here in Pickering, we will do all we can to help him.”

Jason will be taking part in the Sheffield 10k on September 23 and Yorkshire 10 mile in York on October 14.
