A FAMILY fun day at a Pickering pub is aiming to transform the lives of two local children with special needs.

The day - which will include a bouncy castle, games and a grand raffle with prizes from local businesses - has been organised to raise funds for a three-year-old Ruby Sugars and seven-year-old William Chamber, who have complex medical needs.

One of the organisers, Carrie-Anne Brackstone, said: “Local businesses, tourist attractions and artists have kindly all donated prizes for a grand raffle.

“There will be a bouncy castle, as well as face painting and other fun and games for children and adults alike.”

Ruby, who lives in Pickering, has a very rare genetic syndrome which affects her speech, motor development and long-term sight. William, of Marton, has quadriplegic cerebral palsy and severe global development delay in addition to other complex medical issues.

Both families are raising funds for therapy and specialist equipment.

Ruby is in need of an off-road buggy to enable her to accompany her nursery friends on walks to the woods with Sinnington Playgroup.

William’s family has already part-raised the money needed to build him a much-needed hydrotherapy room at home.

A fundraising drive for William’s pool was launched in April and aims to raise £10,000.

The fun day is being hosted by the community pub The Sun Inn on Westgate in Pickering. It will run from noon on Sunday.

The pub has helped with other fundraising events for the children in recent months.

A quiz held for William in April raised hundreds of pounds and another quiz for Ruby in early August raised more than £800.
