THERE’S a distinctly watery theme to today’s selection of photos from The Press Camera Club.
That may just have something to do with the fact that the theme for this month’s camera club competition is #water. We couldn’t possibly say...
Even Clare Mortimer’s study of wheatfields under a heavy sky has the distinct threat of water in it - those clouds look as though they’re about to burst. Elsewhere, it is water that dominates.
Angela Waites’ photograph ‘the old and the new’ is a lovely juxtaposition of images: battered old tractor in the foreground, the timeless sea in the mid-ground, and a row of very modern wind turbines lining the horizon.
Also arresting is Jane Dicken’s photo of reflections in the lake at Rowntree Park. She has upended it, to challenge preconceptions. The result is to make you look, then look again, wondering what you are seeing...
We have also chosen today a contrasting pair of photos of Whitby. Stephen Candler’s version is all colour and twisting, sinuous lines. Robin Banks’ misty sunrise, meanwhile, is ethereal, and rose-tinted from the left - but with the twin jaws of the pier reaching into the photo like a pincer. Great photos all.
