RAMSBOTTOM teenager Arthur Roadnight is celebrating after earning a place at one the world's most prestigious universities.

The Holy Cross student is one of six at the Manchester Road sixth form who are heading to Oxbridge universities after achieving three A* grades in maths, English language and literature, and theatre studies.

The results have secured the 18-year-old prodigy a place at Cambridge where he will study linguistics.

The former Woodhey High School, who lives in Ramsbottom, said: “I am very pleased. I didn’t expect to do as well I have.

“People said that they thought I would do well, but I was pretty confident that I would not get what I needed to get into Cambridge.

“It is mind-blowing, to be honest. It hasn’t settled in yet.”

The 18-year-old, who is the son of Woodhey headteacher Brian Roadnight, also achieved an A* in his Extended Project Qualification.

As for what the future holds, Arthur says he is setting his sights on a career as a legal professional.

“I always joke that I’m going to become a code cracker because that’s what people assume linguistics is, but I’m hoping to go into law," he said.
