CHOCOHOLICS will love the theme for this year’s Harrogate Flower Show.

Plants that have given people pleasure for millennia will be featured and will include a centrepiece made from real chocolate.

The heart of the Tempered Garden will take chef Ashley McCarthy 30 days to make and requires 30kg of dark Belgian chocolate.

Ashley owns Ye Old Sun Inn at Colton and has worked with chocolate for 14 years.

He said: “Chocolate definitely comes high on the list of guilty pleasures, so to have a whole garden with beautiful flowers on the outside and real chocolate in the centre sounds like many people’s idea of heaven.”

The garden has been created with Ripon designer Helen Hays and Harrogate landscaper Nick Fryer.

This year, the show also hosts the National Vegetable Society’s UK championships and a special bicentenary tribute to Humphry Repton, the man who invented the term landscape gardener.

The show will be at the Great Yorkshire Showground from September 14 to 16. See www.flowershow.org.uk
