YORK punk stalwart Stevie Ze Suicide has been presented with the first of two UK Subs' 40th anniversary box sets, The Albums, Volume 1, A To M, in recognition of his years as the band's drummer.

Stevie, who did his stick work under his real name of Steve Roberts, was in the line-up from 1979 to 1981, returning to the ranks in 1986, 1994 and for the 25th anniversary celebration, recorded for a live DVD in 2003.

He played on the albums Diminished Responsibility, Endangered Species and Japan Today, all of which feature in the first anthology, A To M, so named because band leader Charlie Harper chose album titles down the years with the first letter in alphabetical order.

"It's an anthology of British punk excellence that, over the two box sets, consists of 26 albums, from A to Z, and numerous singles over four decades by one of the best loved and most outrageous bands of their era," says Stevie.

Released by the Demon Music Group, UK Subs' The Albums, Volume 1, is available at uksubs.co.uk. "I'm proud of UK Subs' achievements and delighted that these box sets are honouring their legacy," says Stevie, who is busy working on his book of memoirs and revelations, Rock'n'Roll Chronicles, with a view to publication later this year.
