A CRISP packet has cost a man more than £400 after he was spotted chucking it out of his car window.
Aaron Foster, 20, of Turnhead Crescent in Barlby, was seen throwing the rubbish from his car on King Rudding Lane in Riccall in March.
He was ordered to pay £429 after he pleaded guilty to a littering offence at York Magistrates' Court yesterday.
A spokesman for Selby District Council said the issue could have been dealt with by a Fixed Penalty Notice - but Foster refused to discuss the incident with the council and refused the fine, so he was taken to court.
Selby District Council is urging anyone who witnesses someone littering to call 01757 705101 or visit selby.gov.uk/report-litter-offence.
