The brewery: Stancill Brewery.
Where is it?: Oakham Drive, Sheffield.
The story: Thomas Gill and Adam Hague set up Stancill Brewery in January 2014, but the story goes far further back than that. The brewery kit was previously at Oakwell Brewery in Barnsley, and when that closed Tom and Adam were keen to preserve it and give it a new life, and immediately to revive the Barnsley Bitter it had once produced so prolifically. The brewery is one of the many superb independents in Sheffield, and also has four pubs in the city, serving as its tap rooms.
The beers: The seven core beers are Barnsley Bitter, No 7 (pale ale), Porter, Stainless (pale ale), India (ruby ale), Black (dark session ale) and Blonde. The current monthly special is American Beauty, an American-hopped pale ale. Regular outlets beyond Sheffield include The Ginger Goose and The City Vaults in Bradford.
Can I visit?: Not the brewery. Instead, when you’re next in Sheffield, try one of the four Stancill pubs: The Albion, The Norfolk Arms, The Horse and Jockey, and The Closed Shop.
