ST Vincent, alias the innovative, experimental, enigmatic American singer-songwriter Annie Clark, plays a headline show at Leeds O2 Academy on August 28.

Last year she released her fifth long player, Masseduction, which entered the British charts at number six en route to being named album of the year by the Guardian. "Annie Clark makes a rock-star power play by embracing thrilling glam traditions while producing something strange, new and unequivocally moving," the newspaper said. Uncut magazine, meanwhile, hailed Clark's music as a "bravura fusion of dense-art metal/pop and strutting baroque disco".

The "mass seduction" of the album’s title is explained as a bold, emotional reckoning, largely themed around power, or as Clark specifies, "All the forces that can swallow you whole", such as notoriety, beauty and the intoxicating distractions of pills, sex, and sorrow.

Her first collaboration with co-producer Jack Antonoff, who has worked with Taylor Swift, Lorde and Sia, Masseduction occupies a fertile space between pop and art rock, with narratives that range from sentimental to savage in a mosaic of St Vincent's own experiences. "You can’t fact-check it; it’s not a diary entry, but if you want to know about my life, listen to this record," she says.
