FIREFIGHTERS have spent most of the night tackling a hay stack fire near Tadcaster.
A crew from Tadcaster was sent to the blaze near the A162 at Towton at 2.43am and were still there at 7.30am.
North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said approximately 30 metres by 10 metres of hay bales were alight and crews were dampening down surrounding areas to prevent the fire spreading further, using a hose reel jet and beaters.
Firefighters were also called yesterday evening to a large field on fire in Flaxley Road, Selby, which caught alight following a fire to a bailer and tractor.
Approximately 100 square metres of stubble field was damaged and the bailer and tractor were destroyed.
