A BUS service that was under threat has been saved for the next five years thanks to a cash injection from councils.
The number 18 service which runs between York and Holme-on-Spalding Moor will be run by East Yorkshire Motor Services (EYMS), which secured a five-year contract starting on Monday. Daytime services will operate thanks to finance from City of York Council, East Riding of Yorkshire Council and North Yorkshire County Council. Seven parish councils along the route - Wheldrake, Thorganby, Skipwith, North Duffield, Bubwith, Foggathorpe and Holme-on-Spalding Moor - have helped fund a Friday and Saturday evening service until at least March 31 2019.
Cllr Peter Dew, City of York Council’s executive member for transport and planning said: “It's pleasing to hear that a number of local authorities and parish councils have worked together to secure the long-term future of this popular bus route, and that the Friday and Saturday evening service will continue to be available until the end of the financial year at least.”
