A YORK pub is to host a fundraising day in memory of Damian Heys.

YorkTest Laboratories holds an annual family fun day at The Fox in Holgate in memory of their much loved friend and colleague who died following a battle with cancer.

All funds raised from Damo Day will go to York Hospital’s Haematology Department, where Damian received cancer treatment before his death in February 2016.

Jonathan Brookes, operations director at YorkTest, said: “For me and many others, Damo was a dear friend as well as a colleague. He was a good sportsman with a generosity of spirit that very few have and had the ability to be at ease with anybody.

“It truly is a sign of who he was that as a company we remember him and try to raise as much as possible in his name each year.

“He was very appreciative of the care he received when he was ill and therefore we want to help others who find themselves in a similar situation.

“He is still sadly missed, and we hope this year we can make Damo proud once again by raising as much money as possible.”

Damo Day 2018 will be held from 12 to 6pm on Sunday at The Fox and will feature a a bouncy castle, raffle, bake sale, various fun and games and a barbecue.

Last year, Damo Day raised £5000.40 and this year YorkTest are aiming to raise £7000.

Jonathan is also undertaking a triathlon of challenges to raise more money in Damian’s memory. After completing the swimming section in June, he will be cycling the Way of the Roses coast to coast route from August 10 to 12 and running the York Marathon on October 14.
