THREE people who were arrested following a police chase that began near York have been released under investigation.

The pursuit started at around 1.10am on Thursday, when a black Subaru failed to stop for police officers close to Elvington, North Yorkshire Police said.

The force added that the vehicle was followed at "high speed" into the East Yorkshire area where the Subaru then left the road and stopped in a field.

It said three occupants then ran away from the vehicle but were found a short time later by police officers and a police dog.

The force confirmed that three men, two 29-year-olds and a 26-year-old, all from South Yorkshire, were arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for the police and suspected theft of a vehicle.

It said the 26-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of drug driving, and one of the 29-year-olds was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and drink driving.

They have all been released under investigation while inquiries continue.

Inquiries are ongoing to establish the rightful owner of the vehicle.
