A HOST of famous faces and voices have been confirmed in Selby Town Hall’s latest programme.

The town hall’s autumn season, which starts on August 31, will include comedian and poet Phill Jupitus, Liverpudlian new wave band China Crisis, and former Wonder Stuff frontman Miles Hunt.

Kiki Dee, who famously dueted with Elton John on Don’t Go Breaking My Heart, and who was the first European artist signed to the legendary Motown label, will return to Selby in October with an acoustic set featuring unique covers alongside her own music, and Ivor Novello nominated singer-songwriter Tom Baxter - whose songs have been covered by entertainers from Dame Shirley Bassey and Boyzone - will also perform that month.

Tickets for the show by former Never Mind The Buzzcocks team captain Phill Jupitus sold out in 24 hours, but seats are available for Mock The Week regular Zoe Lyons and political comedian and star of The Mash Report Geoff Norcott, while Sunny Ormonde - best known as Lillian Bellamy from The Archers - will also present an evening of chat, gossip and performance.

The Learner Parent - also known as Sam Avery - visits Selby on his debut national tour following the success of his blog and book about the trials and tribulations of first time parenthood, and The Thinking Drinkers will discuss the history of the world’s pubs, bars, cocktail lounges and speakeasies, with five free drinks for every ticket holder.

Chris Jones, arts officer for Selby Town Council, said: “There are such a wide variety of shows on offer this autumn, from returning favourites to some of the most exciting new stars from the worlds of comedy, theatre and Americana.

“I’m particularly excited to welcome back UK R&B icons Nine Below Zero for a rare, classic four piece band gig just before Christmas as well as one of the country’s most brilliant storytelling theatre makers, James Rowland. His show A Hundred Different Words For Love, a funny and touching Richard Curtis-esque love story, was the best thing I saw at last year’s Edinburgh Festival by some distance and I’m thrilled to be able to bring it to Selby. Whatever you’re into though, I hope you’ll find something in our programme to pique your interest.”
