Tanyalee Davis is not the only disabled person encountering LNER problems when travelling by train (“Comic in rail mix-up”, July 24).

My sister-in-law, Daphne, had a serious problem on her journey from London to York.

I had put in place disabled assistance with LNER for the whole journey from Eastbourne for her.

All went well until they announced, a few minutes from Doncaster, that they were terminating the train there. She naturally panicked about her arrangements and she was right to as, if it had not been for two kind young people, I don’t know what would have happened.

With great difficulty, and no wheelchair, they got Daphne on to another train to York - without any assistance from LNER.

When they arrived in York, the same problem occurred. I was at the station and, although I asked for help as I was very concerned about her, they said they were not aware of her and that the train would have to depart - but they would make arrangements further up the line at Darlington.

As the train departed I was furious, but then received a phone call from her. Surprise, she was at York as the same two wonderful young people had rescued her yet again.

LNER have no safeguards or communication in place for the disabled for railway cock-ups down the line which, sadly, are now frequent.
