A MAN was taken to hospital after entering the River Foss in York, while another person was rescued from the River Ouse in the city.

North Yorkshire Police said a man entered the Foss near the Q-Park car park in Garden Place this afternoon (July 21).

The incident was reported to North Yorkshire Police at 4.15pm and officers attended the scene.

The force asked people to avoid the walkway area while officers spoke to witnesses at the scene.

Fire and ambulance crews also attended the incident, along with York Rescue Boat.

A spokeswoman for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: "We sent an ambulance and a rapid response vehicle to the scene. One patient was taken to hospital."

Meanwhile, York Rescue Boat said a person entered the River Ouse by Ouse Bridge with stones in their pockets at about 11.35pm last night.

The boat patrol spotted the person, who was in a "very distressed state," the independent search and rescue charity added.

The charity's boat and foot patrols helped the person to the side of the river.
