ARCHAEOLOGISTS believe they have found evidence of a prehistoric settlement at Wetherby Road roundabout on the A1237.
The discovery was made during improvement roadworks at the site and part of the find is believed to date back to the Iron Age.
Researchers discovered decorated pottery fragments, a piece of possible pumice-stone and a volcanic rock not found locally at the site.
Ian Milsted from York Archaeological Trust, said: "We’re excited to have recovered this important information and will now analyse the finds to understand the story of the people who lived here before the Romans founded the city."
