A "STRANGE" smell has been reported in Acomb and Holgate.
Residents said there has been a stench in their neighbourhood since the weekend and that the smell was at its worst on Monday.
One resident from Acomb said the strong smell is "like manure" while another resident said the smell had also "wafted" into the Holgate area.
Cllr Andrew Waller, councillor for Westfield Ward and City of York Council executive member for the environment, said the smell is from nearby fields being sprayed.
He said: "It's something that happens from time to time because the agricultural fields are so close.
"It's unfortunate that it's so hot that people are keeping their windows open. But it has happened before.
"We will be keeping an eye and a nose on it."
A spokeswoman for City of York Council said officers received two calls on Tuesday about the smell, which they confirmed was due to agricultural muck spreading.
