A TEENAGER who allegedly drove a quad bike at police officers in York has appeared in court.

Lewis Matthew Berkley, 19, was arrested on Tuesday.

He appeared before York and Selby Magistrates' Court on Wednesday to face charges of dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, driving without insurance.

Berkley was also charged with breaching a criminal behaviour order made against him in 2016, which banned him from wearing a hood in public.

The court heard two North Yorkshire Police Community Support Officers were cycling on a cycle path when a man wearing a hood and riding a quad bike rode at them at speed, causing them to jump from their bikes. The man then allegedly lost control of the quad bike and fled on foot.

Berkley pleaded not guilty to all four charges against him, and was remanded into custody.

He is next due to appear before York Crown Court in August.
