STARS of the hit Grand Opera House musical Hairspray drop by Ed’s Diner in York’s Designer Outlet for a milkshake before an evening performance.

Pictured here are Annalise Liard-Bailey, who plays Penny Pingleton, front left, Shak Gabbidon-Williams (Seaweed), Dan Partridge (Link Larkin) and lead actress Rosie O’Hare (Tracey Turnblad).

Hairspray opened in York on Monday and runs until Saturday, receiving a standing ovation at each performance. Based on John Waters' cult 1988 film, it tells the story of big-haired, big-hearted teenager Tracey Turnblad taking on prejudice, racism and segregation in 1962 Baltimore.

Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman's musical, with a book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan, won eight Tony awards on Broadway. Tickets for Paul Kerryson's touring show are on sale on 0844 871 3024 or at atgtickets.com/york
