A PLAQUE has been planted in the garden of a York theatre in honour of renowned York musician Bev Jones.

Mr Jones, 75, of Copmanthorpe, who sang as a schoolboy at the Queen’s Coronation and became a leading singer, composer, arranger, teacher and musical director, died in early 2016.

His widow Lesley has created the plaque, which is now in the garden at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre in Haxby Road.

She said she chose the theatre because it was Bev’s favourite and she had scattered his ashes there last year.

“He used to call it his second home,” she said.

“He produced and directed about 40 productions there, and the plaque will ensure he is not forgotten.”

She said the plaque was planted in time for the staging by The Bev Jones Music Company of a musical show, Strictly Happy, featuring the Greatest Showman, last Sunday.
