RESIDENTS in the Selby area have been urged to ensure their vote counts and look out for their voter registration details in the post.

Annual canvass forms have recently been sent out by Selby District Council ahead of district and parish council elections in May 2019, to check who resides at each property and is over 16 years of age.

Residents are asked to confirm the details on the form or amend as appropriate if someone needs to be added or removed, and return to the council as soon as possible.

Janet Waggott, the council’s Chief Executive and Electoral Registration Officer, said: "It’s important that residents respond as soon as possible, so we can make sure we have the right details on the electoral register for every address in the district.

"To make sure you are able to have your say at the district and parish council elections taking place next year, simply check the form when it arrives and respond as soon as you can. If you’re not currently registered, your name will not appear on the form. If you want to register, you will need to add your name to the form and then go online at gov.uk/register-to-vote, or we can send you the information in the post. Either way you need to complete the form and send it back to us."
