RESIDENTS in a North Yorkshire town have been urged to ensure their homes are secure after a string of burglaries.

North Yorkshire Police said there had been an increase in burglaries in and around Harrogate in recent weeks.

A spokesman said: "During the day time, entry is being forced and jewellery taken. During the evening and night time, entry is being gained with the intention of stealing car keys and consequently cars. Please ensure that windows and doors remain locked and valuable items, including car keys are kept out of sight."

Any suspicious behaviour should be reported on 101 or 999 if a crime is taking place.
