DUNCAN Oakley tops Friday's Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club bill at York Barbican with his infectious mix of musical comedy and stand-up.
"With an eye and ear for the silly, rude, playful and downright irritating occurrences of life, Duncan musters up songs that not only make you laugh, they also burrow into the recesses of your mind and find you humming a tune with a smile on your face three days later, confused and wondering where it’s come from," says compere and promoter Damion Larkin.
"Duncan has performed for nearly ten years on the UK and international stand-up circuit and an easy confidence and good-natured banter make him a regular at all the best venues. Lesser musical comedians hide behind their guitars and use them as a shield, but his is definitely a sword as audiences who have been slain with laughter will gladly testify."
Support act Pete Phillipson, originally from Lincolnshire, now settled in Manchester, mixes fast-moving observations and routines about his misfortunes and frustration at the the minutiae of everyday life with expressive characterisations in myriad accents.
Goofy Dutch comedian Wouter Meijs will be performing too on Friday's 8pm bill. Tickets cost £17 on 0844 854 2757, at lolcomedyclubs.co.uk or in person from the Barbican box office or £22.95 on the door from 7.30pm.
