YORK Mediale, the city's new international media arts festival, is calling on Yorkshire media artists to submit ideas for city-centre installations at the September 27 to October 6 event, but hurry because Friday is the deadline for applications.

This open call is seeking up to four artists to take part in a trail of installations, presenting their work alongside works by international artists.

Creative director Tom Higham says: "This is a wonderful opportunity for some of Yorkshire’s creative talent to have their works showcased to the national and international audience that we'll be attracting to York Mediale 2018.

"It will offer them a platform to exhibit as part of our intensely international, diverse, cutting-edge programme. We want to showcase some of the best media artists working in Yorkshire, and we're seeking work that can be broadly defined as media art. This includes just about anything made with, exploring or interacting with technology, and we're keen to receive a wide range of work from a number of disciplines.

"Any artist or artists who consider technology to play a part in their work are welcome to apply and we’re extremely excited to see what innovative ideas and concepts we receive."

The selected works will be part of a citywide trail alongside Still We Rise, an exhibition of international digital artists. These installations and projects are presented with support from the British Council, with Still We Rise being inspired by the work of American poet, storyteller, autobiographer and civil rights activist Maya Angelou.

Artists interested in these opportunities can find out more at yorkmediale.com/opportunities, where entry criteria and application procedures can be found. Commissioning fee and realisation budgets are available and the deadline for applications is Friday, July 20.
