AMERICAN country singer Dawn Landes will back up the September 14 release of her fifth album, Meet Me At The River, by playing The Basement, at City Screen, York, on October 16.

Landes, 37, was raised in Louisville, Kentucky, and has since spent many years living and performing in Brooklyn, New York, where she was a frequent collaborator with such bright lights as Sufjan Stevens and Nico Muhly. Now, her new home of Nashville, Tennessee, forms the cornerstone for her latest release on Yep Roc Records.

It was there that Landes first met Fred Foster, the Country Music Hall of Fame alumnus, whose list of production credits includes Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Roy Orbison and Kris Kristofferson.

After being swayed by Landes' vocals and songwriting prowess, Foster was pulled out of semi-retirement to produce Meet Me At The River, recruiting a top-shelf crew of Nashville’s A-list studio musicians to work with her: 13-time Academy of Country Music drummer of the year Eddie Bayers; fellow Country Music Hall of Fame member Charlie McCoy on harmonica; Elvis Presley pianist Bobby Wood, and even 1970s' country singer Bobby Bare for a duet on the Landes-penned I Don’t Dance.

"I was lucky enough to work with the legendary producer Fred Foster for my new record," says Landes. "Fred has been making hits for most of his 86 years. Not only did he produce Dolly Parton's first record (what?!) but he also produced Roy Orbison's biggest hits and some of my favourite Kris Kristofferson songs.

"I learned so much working with Fred on this record and I'm so very proud of it. We recorded everything in Nashville with the heaviest hitters around: Charlie McCoy, Steve Gibson, Bobby Wood, Eddie Bayers, Russ Pahl, Larry Paxton and more."

Brought to York by promoters Please Please You, Landes will play The Basement as one of seven British dates this autumn. She last performed in the city in January 2015 at Fibbers, and, by the way, she has a musical entitled Row on the way.

Tickets for October 16 are on sale at pleasepleaseyou.com or in person from The Basement, Earworm Records in York or Jumbo Records in Leeds.
