A SUSPECTED shoplifter who tried to evade police on a bicycle injured a member of the public and a police officer.
North Yorkshire Police said officers responded to reports of a theft from Boots in Coney Street at about 11am on Friday, and pursued a suspect who was travelling on a bike.
A spokeswoman said the suspect collided with a woman in her sixties outside the Mansion House in St Helen’s Square.
She said: "A PCSO confronted the suspect in St Helen’s Square, following reports of the theft.
"The suspect, who was on a bicycle, injured a woman in her sixties as he came off the bike. The woman has been taken to York Hospital for treatment."
The PCSO was also injured in the incident and taken to York Hospital for treatment.
A 26-year-old man was arrested following the incident and remains in police custody.
