CHILDREN at a York primary school created their own version of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park on the school grounds.

Pupils from St George's RC Primary School created works based on five different themes - ice, junk, fairies, the desert and monsters.

Year five classes visited the Yorkshire Sculpture Park to find their inspiration before using a range of materials to bring their own designs to life.

Parents helped youngsters create the artworks and one pupil said: "It took a lot of effort, we had to use screws, screwdrivers, saws and hammers."

The pupils have already build a pyramid-shaped sculpture from beams of wood as well as other geometrically inspired artworks.

And the youngsters have also made life-size model of a human being covered in twigs and leaves, which they have named the green man.

There is also a web tunnel, a hedgehog and a moss-covered pet dog.

And the youngsters also got creative with discarded materials such as tables, creating a display called 'junk junction'.

Pupils declared their sculpture park open this week.
