The brewery: Cold Bath Brewing Co.

Where is it?: King’s Road in Harrogate.

The story: This is Yorkshire’s youngest brewery, opening this weekend if the final checks go to plan. It has been set up by Mick Wren, a former London cabbie who moved to Harrogate, and two friends: Jim Mossman and Roger Moxham, who was previously with pub company Mitchells and Butlers. They’ve converted an old garage near Harrogate Convention Centre, to house a brewery and tap room. They’ve been inspired by the success of brewery tap rooms elsewhere in Yorkshire, such as at Magic Rock in Huddersfield but Mick says the business is just three friends who shared a love of pubs and beer, and decided to launch something new.

The beers: Brewer Matt Fortune, formerly of Bad Co at Dishforth, will be leading the brewing. They contract-brewed a lager at another brewery to get going, but the first beer brewed on their own kit will be a session IPA. Later, they also plan an amaretto stout, using some old amaretto barrels.

Can I visit?: Yes. Once they’re up and running, they expect to be open from Wednesdays to Sundays, says Mick. There’s capacity for about 60 to 70 people.
