THERE are plenty of places to catch England’s World Cup semi-final showdown with Croatia on a big screen around York tonight.

Thousands of city residents will be looking for the perfect spot to watch England's 'history boys' bid to book a place in the World Cup final.

Brew York, Walmgate, has free tickets, which have all been snapped up. However, people are advised to check later as it is first come, first served entry if ticket holders don’t show.

Osbaldwick Sports Club, on the Leyes, is open from 6pm and has four big screens and a 92in projector. The event is not ticketed, but there will be a raffle, with proceeds going to the club, and a draw in aid of British Heart Foundation.

New Earswick and District Indoor Bowls Club, Huntington Road, Huntington, has a big screen. Entrance to the club is free for members, but non-members are welcome in return for a donation.

Pocklington Arts Centre has free entry to its big-screen event, but footy fans are advised to arrive early. The bar is open from 6.15pm.

York City Screen is showing the football for free on one of its big screens again, but tickets are strictly limited and must be ordered in person from the box office in advance.

York Sports Club, Clifton Park, Shipton Road, will be showing the game outdoors from 7pm. This is a family event so children are welcome. You're encouraged to bring a picnic rug. No parking is available at the venue. No food or dogs will be allowed at the event.

Entry is not ticketed, but all attendees are asked to contribute a donation on entry to help with the cost of the screen hire.
