An Evening With David Sedaris, York Barbican, Monday, 7.30pm

SATIRICAL American writer and performer David Sedaris reflects on the human condition in his July 16 show at York Barbican.

Noted for his sardonic wit and incisive social critiques, the Grammy-winning Sedaris will draw on observations to be found in his latest book, his 2017 collection of diaries,Theft By Finding: Diaries (1977-2002).

A prolific writer of essays and short stories, Sedaris is the author of Barrel Fever, Holidays On Ice, Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day, Dress Your Family In Corduroy And Denim, When You Are Engulfed In Flames and Let’s Explore Diabetes With Owls.

He also wrote Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary, a collection of fables with illustrations by Ian Falconer, and he edited Children Playing Before A Statue Of Hercules: An Anthology Of Outstanding Stories. His pieces appear regularly in The New Yorker and have been included twice in The Best American Essays.

More than ten million copies of his books are in print and his works have been translated into 25 languages. He and his sister, Amy Sedaris, have collaborated under the name of The Talent Family to write half-a-dozen plays, produced at La Mama, Lincoln Center and the Drama Department in New York City. Among them are Stump The Host, Stitches, One Woman Shoe, Incident At Cobbler’s Knob and The Book Of Liz.

Sedaris has had his own series on BBC Radio 4 and last appeared at York Barbican in June 2015. His latest show "may contain themes of an adult nature; parental guidance may be required".
