A SEARCH is continuing today (July 10) for a missing diver, after he failed to surface following a dive.

Scarborough Lifeboat Station said a full-scale, ten hour search operation was launched on Sunday to search for a missing 74-year-old diver off Ravenscar, who had been diving two miles from the North Yorkshire coast.

The man, from Scarborough, was reported missing at 6.55pm on Sunday, North Yorkshire Police said.

A search of the area he is believed to have been diving in has taken place this morning, the force added.

Since the man was reported missing the search has involved lifeboats, the coastguards including their search and rescue helicopter and the police.

A spokeswoman for the force said: "North Yorkshire Police is today continuing to support the search for a 74-year-old diver who went missing off the coast of Scarborough.

"Officers from North Yorkshire Police are continuing to support his family and work closely with other organisations, including HM Coastguard and the RNLI, as the search continues.

"Further updates will be provided as and when available."
