How I agree with Megi Rychlikova (“Clean-up time for lager louts”, July 6) concerning the state of York.

As a frequent visitor to York from nearby Malton I was appalled at the state of the pavements in the city. All seemed to be covered in dried up vomit, blood, urine, grease or other disgusting deposits.

I would have liked not to have to walk on it but there was very little clean pavement left. What a terrible sight for all our foreign tourists. What must they think of the dirty English?

Maybe hosepipes could be used to clean up the mess, preferably late at night when the perpetrators are still staggering about. A rush of cold water around their feet might sober them up.
