A HEARTBREAKING card and teddy from a child are among the growing number of tributes being left to a young woman from York.

Claire Lucas, 25, is believed to have been murdered at the flat in Fourth Avenue.

The nursery worker's body was found on Monday. A 35-year-old man arrested on suspicion of her murder has today been released on conditional bail.

The child's heartbreaking card reads: "Teachers change the world one child at a time. You've changed my life forever. I love you Claire and I will miss you always."

Friends and neighbours have paid tribute to her with many saying she was simply "lovely" , describing a kind and much-liked person.

Terry Smith, who runs a neighbouring business, Classic Cutz, in Fourth Avenue, said: “She was the nicest person you could ever meet. She worked at a nursery in York.

“I am devastated and really upset by what has happened today and my thoughts and condolences are with her family and friends at this sad time.”

At the scene in Fourth Avenue yesterday, a young woman who did not wish to be named wept after coming to lay flowers outside the flat.

She said she had worked alongside her and she had been “really, really nice.”

Many others paid tribute on The Press Facebook page, with one person writing: “I love you more than words can say beautiful girl, my best friend, my tinkernug! You will be forever in my heart princess, fly high”.

Gill West wrote: “Such a lovely girl I was lucky to know, RIP lovely,” and Zoe Louise Shorney said “Such a lovely lady. RIP Claire x thoughts go out to her family at this devastating time”.

Jenni Rutherford Burnett write: “Rip Claire you will be missed not only by your family and friends but by all the children and their families who you have been there for. You were such a beautiful young woman with a heart of gold, you shouldn’t have been taken [from] us all, my heart goes out to all Claire’s family.”

Chloe Bundy wrote: “I’m in total shock, what an awful thing to happen to such a lovely girl. R.I.P Claire.”

Kayleigh Erica said: “How awful! My thoughts go out to her family and friends.”

Others expressed their disbelief, saying they knew Claire in college.
