THE Genius Of Alfred Hitchcock, a short season of six films by the famed English director, starts at City Screen, York, on Sunday with 1959's North By Northwest starring Cary Grant.

"Our Vintage Sundays season revisits the unmissable work of the master of suspense himself, giving customers the opportunity to experience his films in the way he intended: on the big screen," says City Screen marketing manager Dave Taylor. "All the Hitchcock films will be showing at noon on Sundays and tickets are only £5 for Picturehouse members or £8 for non-members."

The season continues with the voyeuristic 1954 thriller Rear Window on July 15; Hitchcock's American psychological film noir from 1951, Strangers On A Train, on July 22; his 1940 adaptation of Daphne du Maurier's novel Rebecca, on July 29, and arguably his definitive shocker, Psycho, starring Anthony Hopkins and Janet Leigh, from 1960, on August 5.

The finale on August 12 will be Vertigo, the haunting 1958 thriller voted the best film of all time by Sight & Sound magazine readers in 2016, with James Stewart playing an ex-police officer with an intense fear of heights, hired to prevent an old friend's wife from committing suicide.

Tickets can be booked on 0871 902 5726, at picturehouses.co.uk/york or in person at City Screen in Coney Street.
