A BIG bash, which has raised more than £50,000 for charity, returns this weekend.

The Nunnington Bash started when local resident Ken Metcalfe decided to hold a fundraiser for his birthday in 2011. It was a great success so he did the same the following year, raising money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

In 2013, the village hall committee took over the event as it had out grown the venue and decided to hold it on the cricket field.

Donna Stamp, one of the organisers, said: “The bash is now in its sixth year on the field and attracting nearly 500 people. We have never looked back raising just over £51,000 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and village hall

funds.

“This could not be achieved without the local businesses for cash donations and the loan of lights, tents etc. With help from the local young farmers and residents, we hope to have another great event.”

Live music for the evening will be provided by Don’t Tell Jane, The Black Sheep Band and Midnight Junction.

Donna said: “This year the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) have lent us their shooting simulator. We also have a hog roast, donated by The Fabulous Meat & Fish Company, with sponsorship from Daisy Garden Centre and Russell’s and Yorkshire Fleet. Thanks must go to everyone donating to the Silent Auction and for giving year after year.”

The Nunnington Bash takes place on Saturday, from 5.30 pm.

Tickets are £10 and available from 01439 748310 and at the gate.
