A YORK man raised more than £2,500 for charity by running for 24 hours.

Alex Ashley-Roberts calculated a one-mile loop from his home in Laplugh Crescent, Bishopthorpe, and set off at 8am on Saturday morning (JUNE 23), running and walking the route until 8am on Sunday.

Alex said: "I'm using running to try and make a difference to those in a struggle.

"It's about knowing that you can keep going when things get tough, picking yourself back up if things don't go to plan and being there for each other. An area I feel strongly about is supporting our children and young adults as they find their place in the world. Some of them really struggle, and that's where Action for Children come in and help them go again."

The father-of-two also welcomed the local community to a street and house party, with the help of his wife Louise and children, Melissa and Ben, and has so far raised a total of just over £2,528 for the charity, which helps children find loving foster and adoptive homes, supports young carers, and helps young people out of trouble and into education and employment.
