A WOMAN was rescued from a house fire in York.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews from York, Acomb and Huntington were called to a terraced house in the Layerthorpe area at about 1.20pm.

A spokesman for the fire service said the woman, who was aged in her thirties, became trapped upstairs after a tumble dryer in the property caught fire.

The spokesman said the woman had phoned the fire service, and “was receiving fire survival advice from Fire Control right up to the point of her rescue from an upstairs window”.

He said the house suffered about 20 per cent smoke damage, and the electrical equipment was badly damaged. The cause of the fire was thought to be an electrical fault.

The spokesman said two dogs were also rescued from the house, and crews left the scene at about 1.40pm.

The woman was left the in care of paramedics, and received treatment for smoke inhalation.
