SCARBOROUGH Open Air Theatre kicked off a record-breaking summer season with a sold-out show from Lionel Richie.

The former Commodore packed in the hits on Tuesday night, with a set that included chart-toppers All Night Long, Hello and Say You, Say Me, as well as old favourites such as Dancing on the Ceiling, Stuck On You and Easy.

Scarborough OAT recently announced that more than 82,000 people have already bought tickets for this summer’s planned gigs, up from 75,000 in the previous year.

The season continues at Europe’s largest open-air arena tonight with a headline performance from The Script, before Take That superstar Gary Barlow takes to the stage on Friday night.

Also set to perform this year are Nile Rodgers and Chic, Steps, Alfie Boe, Emeli Sandé, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Stereophonics, Pete Tong, Il Divo, James Arthur, Bastille, Texas, Britney Spears and James.
