A HEADTEACHER has praised the hard work of her staff, pupils and governors after Ofsted said her York school continued to be ‘good’.

Debbie Glover, head of Poppleton Road Primary School, spoke of her delight at the ‘extremely positive’ report provided by the education regulator following a short inspection earlier this year.

“We retained our Good judgement and were absolutely delighted with the feedback we received,” she said.

“The success of this Ofsted was down to the ongoing hard work, loyalty and commitment from all staff, children, governors and all of our families and school community.”

The report by inspector Fiona McNally said this was the first short inspection carried out since the school was judged to be Good in February 2014, and it continued to be so.

“The leadership team has maintained the good quality of education in the school,” she said.

She said pupils were safe and felt safe and parents felt their children made good progress.

“Behaviour is good, with high expectations of pupils which allows them to focus on their learning and do their best,” she said.

“Teaching is effective and teachers plan engaging and varied activities, which meet pupils’ needs closely.”

Pupils and parents reported that bullying was rare, and there very few serious behaviour incidents, and pupils with special educational needs (SEN) and/or disabilities made good progress, with their needs well understood by leaders.

She added that governors took their roles very seriously and had undertaken a review of their work to ensure they met the school’s needs, and all stakeholders believed Mrs Glover was ‘doing a good job’ and was very visible and approachable.
