A NEW Pergola garden has been officially opened at a stately home near York.
The Pergola is the first new garden to be created at the National Trust’s Beningbrough Hall, said a trust spokeswoman.
“It forms part of a long term vision by internationally renowned and award winning garden designer Andy Sturgeon that will see the seven acres revived over the coming years,” she said.
“Now planting has been completed, this beautiful spot in the sun is taking shape as all the flowers come to life.
“Growing beneath the Pergola’s air-dried oak beams is Taxus for topiary cubes and soft planting including Aquilegia, Digitalis, Thalictrum and most notably Wisteria ‘Alba’.
“In its infancy now, the white wisteria holds all the promise for this tranquil area of the gardens.”
She said yesterday’s official opening gave a chance for guests to hear first hand from Andy on his vision for Beningbrough.
