ACTRESS and radio presenter Roxanne Pallett has raised more than £1,100 for Alzheimer’s Society by running her own baking stall in York to support the charity’s Cupcake Day.

The ex-Emmerdale actress urged people visiting the Shambles Market to unite against dementia with their families, friends and colleagues by buying cupcakes to raise vital funds.

She did a roaring trade in sweet treats. Some of them were donated by her family and friends and colleagues at MinsterFM, where she presents the Breakfast Show, but she also baked many cupcakes herself.

In total, she helped raise £1,121.

Roxanne said: "People in York were just so generous, from the local businesses who donated cakes to everyone who came along on the day to buy our cupcakes – it was a brilliant day!

“We started with a stall filled with hundreds of cakes and virtually sold out in two hours – I am delighted to have been able to raise so much for Alzheimer’s as it is a cause close to my heart as my boyfriend‘s father has dementia. I just wanted to do my bit to help Alzheimer’s Society and all it does to support people who live with this devastating illness.”
