PUPILS inspired by a visit to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park have been creating their own artistic installations to go on display in the school grounds this summer.

Youngsters at St George’s RC Primary School in Fishergate have been working on their giant sculptures as part of a field project that the whole school is involved with.

Creative parents and grandparents helped children build their designs.

Children in years five and six took part in the visit to the open-air art gallery.

The pupils have already build a pyramid-shaped sculpture from beams of wood as well as other geometrically inspired artworks.

And the youngsters have also made life-size model of a human being covered in twigs and leaves, which they have named the green man.

The children have now begun making a moss-covered pet dog to accompany the sculpture.

The school thanked parents for volunteering their time and expertise to help with the project.
