THE annual Selby Fun Day will take place this weekend, with events for all the family and thousands of visitors expected to attend.

Sunday's event is free, with sponsorship by Selby College and Selby Market Cross, and will run at locations across the town, with live music and vintage vehicles among attractions being held.

Karen Mann, from organisers Selby Town Council, said she was excited about this year’s event, which will be opened by the Town Mayor, Councillor Eva Lambert, at the Community Centre in Scott Road at midday.

Karen said: "We are hoping for a dry day and last year we had over 2,500 people at the Family Fun Day.

"We are pleased to bring local residents and visitors to our beautiful town and enjoy all the fabulous events once again this year."

Between 12.30pm and 1.30pm there will be a gymnastics display in the centre's main hall followed by a performance by the Selby Community Choir. On the centre's bottom field there will be a dog show and the Frei Compagnie Medieval Re-enactment, with archery and demonstrations throughout the afternoon.

On the Recreation Field from 12.30pm to 8pm there will be a free concert with The Ale Marys, Sledge Against the Machine, Henry Priestman and Men of a Certain Age, Cheaky Blinders, Remember Hillards and 5K playing throughout the day.

Selby Music Centre, Selby Music Rooms Big Band and Markham Main Colliery Band will be playing at Selby Park Bandstand from 12.30pm to 4pm with refreshments available from the Pavilion.

At the Town Hall there will be a Tea Dance, with free entry, open from 1.30pm to 4pm, and refreshments will be served with the proceeds going to Selby District Age UK, and the Selby Motorcycle and Classic Car Rally will be held in Portholme Drive car park from 10am to 2pm - entry forms are available from Selby Leisure Centre or on 01757 213758.
