A LOCAL primary school has enjoyed a fun-filled day out in the countryside.

A key stage 2 class from Bishop Wilton CE Primary School went to one of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society's (YAS) Countryside Days on June 5.

They joined almost 6,000 pupils from 113 schools across Yorkshire for a range of experiences which link to school topics.

Mrs McCarthy's class threw themselves into events, including studying mini-beasts under a microscope, getting up close and personal with a corn snake, which they would now like as a class pet, meeting birds of prey and training a working farm dog.

Mrs McCarthy said: "The entire day was fun-packed and full of learning experiences which I'm sure the children will always remember."

YAS Countryside Days take place annually at the Great Yorkshire Showground, giving children the opportunity to experience all aspects of food, farming, the countryside and healthy living.

Next year's dates will be announced at the end of the year. See yas.co.uk/education-activities for further details.
