A YOUTH has been arrested on suspicion of raping a teenage girl on Hob Moor in Acomb.
Detectives are seeking a man they believe could provide vital information to their investigation into what happened on Thursday evening.
They say the alleged victim was pushed against a garden fence in the alleyway between Hob Moor Drive and Hob Moor shortly before she was allegedly raped.
A police spokesman said: "A man, possibly a runner, stopped and spoke to the victim to ask if she was OK.
"Officers are appealing for this man to come forward, as he may have information which could assist the investigation. They also want to hear from any other witnesses."
A youth, who is 17 years old, has been released on conditional bail.
